Abstract
784,593. Electrode furnaces; current sumpply. VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM-WERK AKT.-GES. June 3,1955 [June 11, 1954], No. 16053/55, Class 39(3) In supplying current to high-capacity electrolytic furnaces, e.g. 40,000 amps for the production of aluminium, the current supplying rails of the anodes and cathodes are formed as continuous cast massive'copper ingots forming bus-bars. In Fig. 3 the cash bus-bars 3<SP>1</SP> are connected through conductors 4 to an anode 2 and similar lower bus bars are connected to rods embedded in and conducting current to the cathode 1. Rising conductors 5 connect the cathode 3<SP>11</SP> of a previous electrolytic furnace of a series of furnaces to the anode bus-bars 3 1 . Current : is thus fed to the anodes vertically from above them.
