Abstract

784,223. Cycle frames. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A. Aug. 12, 1955 [Sept. 4, 1954], No. 25727/54. Classes 136(1) and 136(3) A frame for a bicycle comprises a steering tube 1, a down tube 2, a bottom bracket 3, a seat pillar tube 4 and twin tubes 6 extending rearwardly from the steering head tube, diverging to pass on either side of the seat pillar tube and extending downwardly in the position normally occupied by the rear forks and bent near the normal position of the rear wheel axle in a curve to form parts extending forwardly to meet the bottom bracket 3, rear wheel mounting plates 12 being secured to the tubes 6 at their curved rear parts. Spacers 7 connect the tubes 6 to the seat pillar tube 4. The tubes 6 are provided with bridging tubes 10, 11 to the rear of the seat pillar tube and of the bottom bracket for bracing the frame and to provide attachment parts for the mudguard and brake. Strengthening plates 14, 15 are brazed or welded to the tubes 6 and to the steering head tube 1 and bottom bracket 3 respectively. A carrier may be incorporated in the frame. This comprises a pair of tubes 16 bent into a V-shape and braced by bars 17.
