Abstract
783,532. Heat-treatment furnaces. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938), Ltd. Sept. 30, 1955 [July 27, 1954], No. 21880/54. Class 51(2). In a heat-treatment furnace for wire, rods, &c., the heating chamber 5 is heated indirectly from a muffle chamber 3 to which waste gases from a petrol engine or diesel engine 8 is supplied through a pipe 9, the pressure in the muffle chamber 3 being controlled by a spring-pressed relief valve 12. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), air and fuel under pressure is supplied to the muffle 3. Another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), comprises a muffle-heated continuous furnace for wire, in which the wire extends through a plug at each end. A final modification, Fig. 5, has compressors 35 and 36 for air and fuel respectively supplying the heating chamber through a duct 37 in which combustion takes place.
