740,325. Heating cylinders and induction manifold; air filters. GREEN & SON, Ltd., T., and KNIGHT, F. B. March 10, 1954, No. 7023/54. Class 7(2) An air cleaner for a compression ignition engine is provided with a permanently installed or removable trough in which may be placed a combustible substance so that flames from such substance may be drawn down by suction on turning the engine to heat the manifold and cylinders of the engine. An annular trough may be provided interiorly or exteriorly of the air cleaner core. In Fig. 1 an annular trough 5 is permanently or removably fitted at the upper end of the air cleaner core 4. The trough may be separate from the air cleaner the core being adapted to support the trough in its operative position. The combustible may be methylated spirit or metaldehyde.
