783,245. Crown closure caps. GORA-LEE CORPORATION. March 6,1956, No. 6991/56. Class 125(3). A crown closure cap having means for releasing excess pressure has a metal shell with a flexible end wall 10 and fluted skirt 12, and a sealing member 22 of rubber or other elastomer with a central thin diaphragm 24, outer annular zone 26 and a preformed annular ridge 28 which engages the inner edge 31 of the bottle mouth, the ridge having a slot 29 so that when increased pressure causes wall 10 to bulge upwardly ridge 28 is raised and gas can escape through slot 29 to relieve pressure, the ridge returning to form a seal when the excess pressure is released.
