Class 125(iii) A crown-cork 10 is fitted with a gasket 22 of resilient material shaped as shown, the part 28 of which, after application engages resiliently the top inner area of the bottle neck so as to improve the seal and, if the capsules should ease off a little, to keep substantially constant the area of seal upon which the internal pressure acts. In a modification of the gasket, Fig. 3 (not shown), the peripheral part 26 is not increased as at 26a, Fig. 1, but tapers off towards the edge. The skirt 14 of the capsule has, before application, the form shown, the two parts 14a, 14b lying at an angle of from 70 to 80 degrees to one another. It is stated that this formation gives a stronger seal than the normal capsule or an equal seal using thinner gauge metal for the capsule.
