Abstract

783,130. Transferring freight containers to and from vehicles. TAYLOR, E. J. June 18, 1956 [June 17, 1955], No. 17471/55. Class 78 (4). A container 1 for carriage on a vehicle has laterally projecting spring-loaded pins 6 by which it can be supported from stands 7 to and from which the container 1 is transferred by tipping the platform 3 of the vehicle. When a container is to be transferred from the trailer illustrated the platform 3 is tipped about its trunnions 4 and the stands 7 are suspended by sockets 14 from the pins 6. The platform 3 is then lowered until the rear strands 7 engage the ground; further lowering causes the container 1 to hinge about the rear pins 6 so that the trailer moves rearwardly slightly until lugs 15 on the container 1 are disengaged from sockets on the platform 3 and the forward stands 7 engage the ground. When the pins 6 have been pushed in against their biasing springs the tubes in which they slide can be closed by suitable shutters.
