Abstract
A corrosion-preventing composition comprises a potassium, ammonium or substituted ammonium soap of a fatty acid, a free fatty acid, a drying oil and a non-drying oil. The fatty acids of the soaps may be obtained from drying oils and the free fatty acids from non-drying or semi-drying oils, e.g. cotton-seed oil, maize oil or sunflower-seed oil; ricinoleic and linoleic acids may be used. Castor oil should preferably constitute at least 50 per cent of the total weight of drying and non-drying oil. Small proportions of water and of ethyl alcohol may be included. In examples, potassium hydroxide, triethanolamine, ammonium and diethanolamine soaps are formed by adding linoleic acid to the respective bases, or to their solutions in water or in ethyl alcohol, and ricinoleic acid, linseed oil and castor oil are then mixed therewith.
