Abstract

782,838. Reciprocating pumps. CANDY FILTER CO., Ltd., and THOMAS, W. D. J. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 29, 1954], No. 31321/54. Class 102(1). A pump plunger 10 is actuated on the suction stroke by mechanism comprising a rod 20 connected to a ring 20a mounted for eccentric rotation round a drive shaft 21, and passing through a bore in a pin 19 transversely pivoted to the plunger 10, and having a rebate 22 engageable with a detent 23 so that while the rebate 22 engages the detent 23 due to rotation of the shaft 21 the plunger 10 makes a suction stroke and a spring 26 is compressed. Further rotation of the shaft 21 causes the rebate 22 to clear the detent 23 and the spring 26 forces the plunger 10 to make a working stroke. The length of working stroke is adjusted by means of a stop nut 27. The commencement of the working stroke may be varied by adjusting the height of the detent 23. In a modification a spring- loaded plunger prevents the plunger 10 making a working stroke until the spring-loaded plunger is withdrawn. In a modified construction, a large diameter piston is secured to the plunger 10 and the spring 26 acts directly on this piston. Combinations of these pumps may be mounted on a common drive casing and be driven by a common shaft and deliver to a common outlet, each drawing, if desired, from a separate supply. the timing of each pump being set as required. A free wheel may be incorporated in the drive to prevent reversal of the shaft 21.
