782,254. Land mines. MALM, K. O. B. March 5, 1956 [March 3, 1955], No. 6896/56. Class 9(2) A land mine comprises a hemi-spherical casing 2 containing an explosive charge 1 and rotatable in a bowl 3 having a cylindrical flange 4, which supports the mine when laid. A coaxial tube 5 houses a detonator 6 spaced from a spring-stressed firing pin 7 mounted in a piston 8 and held by balls 9, the piston having a pointed end bearing against the bowl 3. An elastic covering 12, e.g. rubber, encloses the mine. A load pressing on the charge 1 causes the casing 2 to tilt in its spherical bearing, so that the piston is pressed upwards and the balls 9 are freed, thus releasing the pin 7, which is driven upwards by its spring to fire the mine. In a modification. the firing pin is mounted in a Belleville washer and presses against a ball in a socket in the bowl 3. When the casing 2 is tilted, the ball pushes the pin against the detonator. To put the mine "at safe," the detonator may be screwed outwards, and a lid may be provided to protect the mine during transport, the lid having a central aperture through which the detonator may be inserted before final removal of the lid. The casing 2-and bowl 3 may be made of suitable plastics, other parts being of non-magnetic material, except the pin 7 which is steel.
