Abstract
782,137. Electric space heaters. JACKSON, R. A. F. Jan. 19 1956 [April 18, 1955], No. 11097/55. Class 39(3) An electric space heater comprises concrete heat storage blocks 6 secured in pairs about metal tubes 7 containing heating resistances 11 supported by ceramic beads; the resistances are connected in series by connectors 13 and are controlled by a thermostat X. A casing 1, open at the bottom; has a shutter or lid 2 hinged at 3 and is lined with insulation 4 through which air ducts 5 extend, the upper ends of the ducts being sealed when the lid 2 is closed. The plunger 24 of a solenoid 23 connected to a room thermostat or a time switch engages a bracket 25 of the lid 2 which is lifted to open the ducts 5 and allow passage of ambient air which is thereby heated. A further heating resistance may be provided to give off heat directly into the room, and the resistance may or may not be thermostatically controlled. Bricks, sand, cement. or a liquid contained in a heat-insulated casing may be used in place of the concrete blocks.
