Abstract

781,778. Wall coverings. CHURCH & CO. (FITTINGS), Ltd. Oct. 27, 1955 [Oct. 27, 1954], No. 31022/54. Class 20(4) [Also in Group XIV] A column for supporting a bracket comprises a pair of parallel vertical channel slots each for the reception of a flange carried by a bracket and has means for connection to the columns, to hold thereto facia boarding, to leave the channel slots exposed. The column C comprises sheet metal shaped to give two channel slots 15 joined by a web 17 and having outturned flanges 18 spaced rearwardly from the web 17 to receive and position the ends of facia boarding B. The columns may be secured to the wall or the backboard by fixing screws through the web 17 and a wood fillet 20 or by other means. Each bracket 10, used for supporting shelves or the like, has an upturned outer end 11 and a pair of flanges 12. As shown, the flanges are welded to and slightly offset from the sides of the bracket and have triangular shaped ends, to bear against the back of the slots 15, with a groove 14 and hook 13 to engage a pair of apertures 19, a number of which are spaced at the rear of the slots 15. In a modification, the flanges 12 are continuations of the sides of the bracket, with downturned ends to engage the rear of the slots 15 and a pair of hooks extend from the inner sides to form a single hook which engages a slot in the vertical web 17. As shown in Figs 1 and 2, the facia boarding B is held in position by a plate 21 having a pair of prongs 22 to engage in the slots 15, the plate 21 being secured by a screw through the web 17 and wood fillet 20. As shown in Fig. 5, a U-shaped member 23 is secured over the web 17 and held by hooks 24 engaging the apertures 19 and the plate member 25 is secured thereto by nut and bolt 26, 26a, side flanges engaging the edges of the boards B and spaced from the web 17 by lugs 27. The prongs 22 and sides of the member 23 serve to space the board edges clear of the slots 15.
