Abstract

781,552. Container closures. ZIMMERLI, A. Jan. 11, 1956, No. 929/56. Class 125(3). A closure for collapsible tubes, bottles, cans &c. comprises a head-piece 1 screwed on to the neck of the container 3 and having a spherical surface 6 extending up to an inclined plane shoulder 8 above which is an upper spherical surface 9 concentric with the lower one but of smaller radius and an axial passage 10 closed by a thin pieceable diaphragm 12, and a calotte-shaped slider 13 rotatably supported on surface 9 and retained on head piece 1 by a cap 15 held in position by a flange 16 engaging a groove 17 of the headpiece but permitting rotation of the cap, the cap which has an aperture 20 having also a groove 21 which is engaged by a projecting cylindrical pin fixed to slider 13 so that as cap 15 is rotated the slider 13 moves to obturate passage 10 or align the apertures and permit discharge of the container contents. The slider 13 has a bulge 23 and recess 24 so that the annular portion 25 of the slider wall is thin and resilient and can be moved inwardly by pressure on the bulge. Approximately opposite the border of the bulge an annular knife 26 with a toothed edge directed inwardly is moulded into the inner face of the slider wall. When bulge 23 is pressed inwardly by a small elongated object such as a match or a nail the cutter 26 meets diaphragm 12 and stamps out a disc which is retracted when the bulge is released. It is stated the knife could be omitted and the diaphragm 12 pierced with a suitable tool, also the head piece 1 could be permanently connected to the container as by welding or gluing.
