Abstract
Pressure between wringing rollers may be varied by a piston z moving centrally pivoted levers b supporting the ends of a roller a. The pressure system comprises a three-way cock s, a gauge n, a pressure reducing valve m, a high-pressure container g and a pressure fluid reservoir i joined by a pump u, and jointed <PICT:0781324/IV (b)/1> rods f, f1 which may be moved by a cam e to rotate the cock s. When running slowly the roller pressure is reduced by feeding fluid at say 7 atmospheres from the container g to the cylinder r via the reducing valve m. If fluid at 4 atmospheres is required to reduce the roller pressure then the valve m is adjusted until the gauge n reads 4 atmospheres. The cock s is then turned by movement of the cam e when the machine is switched to slow running which cam e lifts rods f, f1 to permit fluid to enter the cylinder r to move the piston z and levers b. When running rapidly the weight of the roller a is the only pressure producer, the cock s being turned by movement of cam e and falls on rods f, f1 to allow the fluid to escape from the cylinder to the reservoir i. Several wringing machines may be connected to the one container g.
