Abstract

780,649. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938), Ltd. April 25, 1956, No. 12691/56. Class 122 (1). A piston and scraper ring assembly, Fig. 1, comprises two spaced triangular-sectioned rings 7 within a single piston groove, each ring having a vertex angle 8 greater than a right-angle and the rings being so disposed in the piston groove that their bases 9 face each other and converge towards the mouth of the groove, the rings being pressed outwardly and axially to bear on the sides 4 of the groove by a polygonal, corrugated, or similar split ring device 11 inserted between the rings and the back of the groove 3. Drain passages 5 lead from the corners of the groove to the inner face of the piston. The rings 7 may have their inner, acute-angled, edges shaped to the alternative forms shown in Fig. 3.
