Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0780636/IV (a)/1> and acid addition salts thereof, wherein R1 is an isobutyl, pentyl, hexyl or benzyl group, X is an oxygen atom or the group -NH-, A is a divalent hydrocarbon radical of at least 2 carbon atoms and R2 and R3 each represent an alkyl group of up to 4 carbon atoms. Preferred products are the benzoic acid derivatives of the above general formula wherein X is oxygen, A is -CH2CH2-, and R2 and R3 are each ethyl; benzoic acid derivatives wherein X is oxygen, A is -CH2CH2CH2-and R2 and R3 are each butyl, and benzoic acid amides of the above general formula wherein X is -NH-, A is -CH2CH2-and R2 and R3 are each ethyl. The products are made (1) by reacting in aqueous solution or in an inert organic solvent a chlorocarbonate of the formula R1-O-CO-Cl with a water-soluble salt of the corresponding amine of the formula H2N-C4H6-CO-X-A-NR2R3 and separating the resulting hydrochloride; (2) by reacting a chlorocarbonate of the formula R1-O-CO-Cl with a p-aminobenzoic acid H2N-4CH6-COOH to obtain an acid of the formula R1O-CO-NH-C4H6-COOH which is converted into the desired ester or amide by known methods; and (3) converting the group NH2 in a base of the general formula H2N-C4H6-CO-X-A-NR2R3 into an isocyanate group and reacting the resulting phenyl isocyanate with an alcohol R1OH. Where the products of the above processes are obtained as hydrochlorides they may be converted into the free base by treatment with sodium carbonate, if desired. An example describes the preparation of b -diethylaminoethyl p-isobutoxycarbonyl-aminobenzoate. Other preferred products of the above general formula are specified with melting-points.
