Abstract

A procedure for the preparation of a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of an N- (1-adamantyl) urea of the formula: ** (See formula) ** where R2 is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of 1 to 12 carbon atoms; Alq is alkylene of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R3 is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C12alkyl, dialkyl (lower) lower aminoalkyl, benzyl, 4- (N-methyl) piperidyl and an alkoxyalkyl of formula -R'- (O- R'') nO-R''', where R', R'' and R'''are each a member selected from the group consisting of methyl and ethyl and n is an integer from 0 to 3; and the therapeutically active acid addition salts of the above compounds containing a basic nitrogen, the process of which is characterized by reacting a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula HNR2-Alq-COOR3 in a suitable solvent and, optionally, in those cases where R3 in the final product is hydrogen, prepare an ester thereof by normal procedures; or if R3 in the final product is other than hydrogen, prepare the corresponding free acid form by conventional hydrolysis; or converting the final compounds containing a basic nitrogen into a therapeutically active acid addition salt by reaction with an appropriate acid.
