Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:0920859/IV(a)/1> in which R1 and R2 are alkyl radicals containing from one to four carbon atoms or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a heterocyclic radical (for example piperidino, morpholino), n is two, three or four, and R3 and R4 are hydrogen or halogen atoms or methyl, alkoxy or trifluoromethyl groups; and acid addition salts thereof; and a process for the preparation thereof by reacting a phenyl magnesium halide having a substituent R4 with a benzophenone of general formula <FORM:0920859/IV(a)/2> preferably in a solvent. Benzophenones as above are prepared by reacting an alkali metal salt of an appropriate hydroxybenzophenone with a dialkylaminoalkyl halide. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the above compounds I are mentioned for oral (capsules, tablets, suspensions, liquids) and parenteral (solutions) administration. The compounds have endocrine activity and also block cholesterol formation.
