Abstract

780,313. Nozzles. COMMERCIAL SHEARING & STAMPING CO. Oct. 5, 1955 [Nov. 29, 1954], No. 28365/55. Class 69 (3). A nozzle which produces a high-pressure converging conical liquid film comprises annular members 10, 11 bolted together by circumferentially spaced bolts 16 and spacers 17, and providing between them an annular chamber 12. A V-shaped hardened ridge 15 on member 11 forms a line contact with a hardened curved face 14 on the member 10. The pressure of liquid supplied to the chamber 12 through a line 21 opens the line contact and a liquid film converges towards the axis of the members, and may be used to descale a rod passing axially through the nozzle. The plate 11 has an additional ridge 15a on its opposite face so that it can be reversed. In Fig. 4 the annular members 30, 31 are secured together by bolts and an annular clamping plate 36. A liquid chamber 34 is provided, and a ridge 33 makes line contact with a conical face 35. The nozzles are secured within casings by screws 50.
