Abstract
780,195. Tools for removing hubs. ALL CHIN, E. F. May 31, 1955 [May 29, 1954], No. 15978/54. Class 61. In a hub puller comprising a body portion 10, a thrust block or shaft 12 mounted in the body and adapted to engage the axle 17 and having two or more arms 18 each adapted to be engaged at one end with the body 10 and at the other end to engage over and be secured to a projecting stud on the hub 19, the stud engaging end 24 of each arm is pivotally associated with the remainder of the arm and is of ring-like form provided with an internal shoulder 26 and adapted to receive adaptor rings having apertures of different diameters. As shown the upper ends of the arms 18 have hook-shaped ends 21 adapted to engage in an annular groove 13 in the body 10. The opposite ends of the arms 18 are forked at 22 and each stud engaging member 24 has projecting lugs 25 which pivot in transverse apertures 23 in the arms of the fork. In a modification a forked member is pivoted on the lower end of each arm, the member 24 being pivoted between the arms of the fork. The upper ends of the arms are pivoted at one or other of selected attachment points on the body of the puller. The screw-threaded shaft has mounted therein an hydraulic assembly which is operated by a screw-threaded member which projects axially from the shaft.
