Abstract

Ores containing uranium minerals, such as davidite, brannerite and absite, are concentrated by treating an aqueous pulp of subdivided ore by a process of froth flotation in the presence of an insoluble and unsaponifiable hydrocarbon oil emulsified with an anionic water-soluble emulsifying agent and stabilized with an oil-soluble stabilizing agent. The reagents may be added to the ore before, during or after, the subdivision stage. The hydrocarbon oil may be fuel oil! kerosene, a cut-back cracking still tar, or as gas oil; the emulsifying agent may be sodium or potassium oleate, sulphonate castor oil, sulphonated petroleum, sulphonated whale oil or an unsaturated higher fatty acid derived from linseed, e.g. linoleic acid or linolenic acid; and the stabilizing agent may be cresylic acid, oleic acid or pine oil.
