Abstract

In a process for concentrating fluorite bearing ores, a froth flotation is carried out in the presence of sulphonated petroleum. The ore is ground and, if necessary, de-slimed and then made into a pulp with water. The reagent is added, the oil soluble or "mahogany" sulphonated petroleum being diluted with secondary butyl alcohol and the water-soluble or "green oils" having a water repellant substance such as any animal, mineral or vegetable oil added. The fluorite is floated in the froth. A depressant for the gangue may be added, for example quebracho, dextrin or alkali phosphates. Five examples of the process are given, and Specifications 2359/09, 19856/14, [both in Class 82 (ii)], and U.S.A. Specification 2,069,182 are referred to.
