Abstract

In the concentration of iron ores by froth flotation as described in the parent Specification the concentration from the anionic flotation is subjected to a conditioning with an alkaline material and a surface modifying agent in sufficient quantity to prevent the iron minerals from floating before the cationic flotation of the parent Specification. The preferred alkaline reagent is lime but soda ash or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide may be used. The surface modifying agent may be tannic acid, quebracho, dextrin, trisodium phosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate or sodium acid pyrophosphate. The conditioned pulp may be deslimed before subjecting it to the cationic flotation. Specification 586,961 is referred to.
