Abstract

<PICT:0779652/III/1> <PICT:0779652/III/2> In mixing, grinding, emulsifying or dispersing apparatus comprising a stator 8 and a rotor 7 between the co-operating surfaces of which the material to be treated flows from the axis towards the periphery, the surfaces have a first area where annular series of grooves 10, 12 face one another and a second area where annular series of groovs 101, 121 face one another, each of the areas being followed by areas where the surfaces form gaps 9, 91. As shown in Fig. 4 the gap 9 leads into an annular chamber 14, but in a modification the gap 9 leads directly to the second area. Additional material to be treated may be supplied through a duct 15. In Fig. 2 the grooves are not shown but lie in the position indicated by the reference 16. The rotor is driven by a coupling 4 and a motor 2. The material is supplied to a hopper 5 and is finally discharged by a pipe 6. In modifications the apparatus has a vertical axis, the drive being direct or by means of belts.
