Abstract

779,334. Screw conveyers. KOPPERN, H., and SCHAFER, H., [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK KOPPERN & CO., KOMM-GES.]. Feb. 20, 1956 [Feb. 18, 1955], No. 5219/56. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for briquetting granular materials in a roller press 3, 4, the material is fed into the nip 2 between the rollers by a screw conveyer 6 which yields axially when the pressure exceeds a specified limit to cause temporarily a reduction in the rate of feeding the material. The shaft 7 is mounted slidably in a bearing 16 at the top of the housing 8 and is coupled directly to a geared motor 18. A flange-plate 20 on the motor casing carries three circumferentially-spaced pins 22 which pass through apertures in the bearing-plate 14 and the flange 12 of the housing 8. Each pin bears against a roller 32 mounted on the plate 14. Compression springs 26 are mounted on the lower parts of the pins and bear against retaining washers 28. A speed regulator 34 mounted on the top of the motor 18 is operated by an arm 36 which is connected by a link 38 to the flange 12. A release gate in the housing 8 may be opened by the displacement of the screw. In a modification a weighted lever system is used for loading the axially displaceable members of the feed mechanism and for adjusting the load pressure. The end of the screw 6 is provided with twin blades 5 to distribute the material uniformly over the width of the gap above the nip 2.
