638,166. Roller-and-ring machines. EVANS, O. (Herglotz, F. L. J.). May 20, 1947, No. 13599. [Class 87 (ii)] A ring roll press for briquetting granular, fine or powdered materials such as coal comprises a ring roll 1, an eccentrically mounted inner roller 6, the ring roll being supported between a thrust roller 4 on which operative pressure is applied and a supporting roller 9 beneath the ring roll and the axes of the ring roll, the inner roll and the thrust roller lying substantially in a horizontal plane. The pressure between the rollers may be adjusted by means of tension bars 7 extending through the bearing blocks 2, 5 of the inner roll 6 and the roller 4, the bars 7 being tensioned by nuts 15, 16. Alternatively, the pressure may be adjusted by means of tensioning springs, hydraulic rams or weighted levers. The material is fed into the press by screws 11, and briquetted in cavities formed between the rollers 1, 6, the briquettes being discharged onto a chute 12. The drive may be through the thrust roller 4 or the periphery of the ring roller 1 may be directly driven by a pinion. Two or more thrust rollers may be used.
