Abstract

779,295. Scaffolding. JAGIEL, Z. J., and BEBOUT, J. W. Feb. 28, 1955, No. 5848/55. Class 20(2) In a scaffold structure having a plurality of vertical posts each composed of a plurality of sections 11 any pair of vertically adjacent sections 11 are formed by the vertical side members of similar frames 10 which extend in different directions away from the post, and the abutting ends of vertically adjacent sections are telescopically enclosed by sleeve members 16 having means for locking the posts against relative lateral rotation. In Fig. 1 a scaffold structure consists of identical frame members 10 each having two vertical posts 11 connected by horizontal cross-bars 12. A tubular sleeve 16 welded to the upper end of each post 11 is provided with a slot 18 opening in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the crossbars 12. The ends of the vertical posts 11 of each pair of adjacent frames 10 abut each other within the sleeve 16 secured to the post 11 of the lower frame and the slot 18 in the sleeve 16 engages the lower cross-bar 12 of the upper frame. In a modification the sleeves 16 are separate members provided with slots 18 at each end disposed at 90 degrees to each other to engage cross-bars 12 of each two adjacent frames. Other forms of assembly of the frames can be obtained by the variation in angularity of the slots in the sleeve members.
