Abstract

610,325. Scaffolding; frames for tents &c. O'SULLIVAN, E. July 4, 1945, No. 17079. [Classes 20(i) and 20(ii)] A scaffolding structure or marquee frame consists of any number of dismountable skeleton units superimposed upon each other, each unit being composed of two parallel unitary frames joined by detachable horizontal members, units having end unitary frames joined by detachable longitudinal members alternating with units having side unitary frames joined by transverse detachable members. A base unit 1, equipped with feet 15, has rigid end frames formed of tubular uprights 10, 11 bolted or welded to horizontal channel members 12, 13. These two frames are detachably connected together by four further horizontal channels 16, 17. Unit 2 has rigid longitudinal frames made of uprights 210, 211 bolted or welded to a horizontal channel member 212, the two frames being detachably connected by two channels 213. Unit 3 resembles unit 1 in having rigid end frames, but, like unit 2, has only one set 312, 316 of horizontal members. The scaffolding is built with both types of unit (2 and 3) alternating and is surmounted by a hand-rail formed by an integral longitudinal framework 610, 611, 612. Fig. 3 shows how the uprights, e.g., 10, 210 are secured to each other by an intermediate internal sleeve or spigot 115 which rests on a further internal sleeve 114 welded to the feet 15. These feet are adjustable and are positioned by means of pins passing through holes 116 in the tubes 10, 114. This Figure and Fig. 5 also show how spigots 225 welded to the detachable horizontals, e.g., 16 fit into sockets 121 made of short lengths of channel iron welded to the uprights. Two adjacent scaffolding towers may be connected together by detachable channel members 20, 220, &c., Fig. 4.
