Abstract

779,266. Electric heating pads. ELECTROTHERMAL ENGINEERING, Ltd. Aug. 9, 1955 [Aug. 9, 1954], No. 23124/54. Class 39(3). A strip 1 of flexible natural or synthetic rubber or similar elastomer is formed in one face with a series of projections. 2 in two or more rows extending in the direction of the length of the strip, a flexible resistance heating wire 3 is wound sinuously round the projections of the rows as shown. and a similar flexible rubber strip is bonded or moulded to the strip to cover the wire 3. The projections are mushroomshaped or are cylindrical with a top slot to take the wire, and the projections. in one row are in staggered relation to the projections of another row, so that on stretching the strips, no strain is thrown on the resistance wire 3, which is bare or stranded and may be wound on a flexible core. Where two or more similar pairs of rows of projections are formed, the distance between the two pairs is greater than or equal to the distance between the rows of one pair. The projections may be spaced to give uniform or non-uniform heating. The heater may be used in de-icing aircraft
