Abstract

778,232. Drying cylinders. SPOONER DRYER & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Sept. 13, 1955 [Oct. 1, 1954], No. 28282/54. Class 34(1) A roller or cylinder 1, e.g. for textile drying or paper making, is heated by feeding steam into water circulated through it. A pump 8 circulates water from an inlet valve 9 past a steam inlet 10 into a stub shaft 3 which is journalled on the water pipe for rotation of the cylinder. The hot water passes over a shell 15 in the cylinder to a similar stub shaft 3 at the other end to return to the pump 8. A relief valve 13 for the discharge of water and air at the cylinder outlet is connected by a stationary pipe 14 to the top of the cylinder. The steam at higher pressure than that of the water enters through a valve 11 controlled by a thermostat disposed in the water flow and preferably close to the outlet water connection.
