Abstract

839,159. Drying drums. BELOIT IRON WORKS. May 14, 1958, No. 15509/58. Class 34(1) A drying drum comprises a rotary shell 11, Figs. 1, 2, a stationary shell 22 and means, including a conduit 18, 18a, about which the shell 11 rotates, for pasing hot oil in a closed path comprising a pipe 41, a pump P and a heater 32 through the annular chamber C formed between the shells. The oil enters the chamber, via piping 33 and 34 and a series of ducts 35, through a structure 37-39, Fig. 2, extending lengthwise of the shell 22, which creates turbulence in the oil before it passes through perforations 36. A similar structure, ducting and piping leads the oil from the chamber to the oil return pipe 41. Oil which passes packing rings 23, 23a, into end chambers A, B, is induced through bleed-off lines 25 into rings 26, 26a which feed it through conduits 27, 27a into a conduit 28. The oil then flows through a conduit 29 into a conduit 30 from whence it passes through a flow-control valve 31 to the pipe 41.
