Abstract
777,934. 'Ventilators; shuttering for casting walls. RUMBLE, R. W. April 23, 1953 [April 29, 1952], No. 11203/53. Classes 20(2) and 137 An airvent assembly for the wall 29, Fig. 3 of a building comprises a cover plate 12 to cover the outer end of a port in the wall, a tension spring 30 within the port which engages the cover plate 12 and urges it towards the wall and apertures 16 associated with the plate 12 for passage of air into the port. As shown a cylindrical sleeve 10 is provided with a pair of distance rings 11 and a pair of cover plates 12, the spring 30 being engaged with hooks 31 on the plates. Each ring 11 has a spigot end 14 for entering sleeve 10, an annular flange 15 and apertures 16 which may be covered by gauze to prevent ingress of insects. In a modification the rings and plates are secured together. For casting a concrete wall two sets of panels 18, Fig. 2, constitute shuttering for a moulding space 19, the edges of the panels having grooves 20 to receive waling members 21 and the ends of cross ties 22. A pair of locating members 13, each consisting of a strip 23 and spider 24, engage and support the sleeve 10, the upper end of each strip 23 being bent outwards at 27 and formed with a tongue 28 for entering the groove 20. After the concrete has been poured into the space 19, the members 13 are removed and rings 11 and plates 12 are held in place by spring 30. In a modified procedure the bent over part of each member 13 is extended beyond the walls of panels 18 and a lateral strip carried thereby is bolted to the flanges 34 of the working members 21. In constructing a cavity wall, Fig. 4, a pair of sleeves 10a, 10b are used supported by a yoke 35 attached to each sleeve, the bridge 36 of the yoke being attached by bolts and nuts 37 to the assembly and having mounted on it a tie 38 the ends of which are formed as tongues 39 entering grooves 20 in the panel edges. Lateral strips 32 are bolted to the ends of the tie 38. A central core 40 lies between the sleeves. After casting the wall, the bridge 36, tie 38 and core 40 are removed. An inner sleeve is inserted into the sleeves 10a, lOb before adding the cover plates, distance rings and spring. In a modification, only the outer ring and cover plate are used, the inner end of the air channel being closed by a normal rectangular airvent and the spring being anchored on a diametrical rod in the sleeve. In a further form, Fig. 8, one of the distance rings 11a has a spired 44 to which one end of the spring 30 is hooked, and the cover plate 12a is adjustably mounted to vary the air intake by means of a bolt 45 and nut 47, a compression spring 46 being arranged on the bolt 45. Alternatively or additionally to apertures in the distance rings, louvres may be provided in the cover plates.
