A wood preservative composition comprises arsenic pentoxide, copper sulphate and sodium dichromate in the following proportions by weight: arsenic pentoxide (As 2 O 5 .2H 2 O) 0.7 to 1.3; copper sulphate (CuSO 4 .5H 2 O) 2.5 to 3.5; sodium dichromate (Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 ) 4 to 5. An aqueous solution of the preservative composition may be injected into wood or applied by brushing, spraying or dipping, or the wood may be impregnated under pressure.
