Abstract

A cleaning and polishing agent for silver and other precious metal surfaces includes by weight 3 to 10% of a n-alkane-1-thiol (the alkane being a straight chain radical containing 12 to 20 C atoms), e.g. lauryl mercaptan, and 10 to 40% of an alkyl-aryl-polyglycol ether as wetting agent, with or without 3 to 12% of a primary alcohol, e.g. isopropanol, as solubilizer and/or 1 to 5% of a phosphated organic ammonium compound as cleaner and/or 1 to 5% of a water-soluble perfume, in a 0.5 to 3% sulphuric acid solution (d = 1.86).
