Abstract

An antiseptic and disinfectant soap or detergent composition comprises (a) 0.5 to 5% by weight in volume of the composition of a bactericidal phenol derivative, (b) 2 to 10% by weight in volume of the composition of a stable organic sequestering agent, (c) triethanolamine or monoethanolamine at least in an amount in excess of that required to neutralise the organic sequestering agent, and (d) a soap detergent, e.g. triethanolamine or mono-ethanolamine salts of the fatty acids from castor oil, or sodium lauryl sulphate or detergent materials obtained by sulphating olefinic compounds. Specified bactericidal phenols are 2-benzyl-4-chlorophenol or dichloro-m-xylenol, dichloro-3-methyl-5-ethylphenol, 2-benzyl-4-chlorophenol, 4-chloro-3:5-dimethylphenol, and thio bis (2-hydroxy-3-methyl benzene). Specified sequestering agents are ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid, diaminocyclo-hexanetetra-acetic acid, N-hydroxyethyl-ethylenediamine-tri-acetic acid, diethylenetriamine pentacetic acid, or 1:2-propylenediamine-tetra-acetic acid. Methylated spirits and terpineol may also be incorporated.ALSO:An antiseptic and disinfectant composition comprises 0,5 to 5% by weight in volume of the composition of a bactericidal phenol derivative, 2 to 10% by weight in volume of the composition of a stable organic sequestering agent, triethanolamine or monoethanolamine at least in an amount in excess of that required to neutralise the organic sequestering agent, and a soap emulsifying agent, e.g. triethanolamine or monoethanolamine salts of the fatty acids from castor oil, or sodium lauryl sulphate or detergent materials obtained by sulphating olefinic compounds. Specified bactericidal phenols are 2-benzyl-4-chlorophenol, dichloro-m-xylenol, dichloro-3-methyl-5-ethylphenol,2-benzyl-4-chlorophenol and 4-chloro-3 : 5-dimethylphenol, thio bis (2-hydroxy-3-methyl benzene). Specified sequestering agents are ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, diaminocyclohexanetetra-acetic acid, N-hydroxyethyl-ethylenediamine-tri-acetic acid and 1 :2-propylenediaminetetra-acetic acid.
