What all these known cleaning agents and baths have in common is that they are more or less fast and more or are less effective in cleaning a silver or precious metal surface; but it succeeds by means of this known Cleaning baths fail to stabilize the gloss effect achieved over a longer period of time.
Furthermore, silver protection agents or baths are known, the use of which is used to protect bare silver surfaces to give against tarnishing and the shiny silver surfaces to preserve their own high gloss, so that this silver gloss effect is maintained over a longer tent. It is known to use thin coatings on the surface of silver objects for this purpose to be covered with transparent varnishes, e.g. a zapon varnish. These measures are technically relatively laborious and At least less effective wherever such coatings are easily damaged mechanically as a result of rough handling during use, e.g. in the hotel and restaurant industry. These shortcomings show the ones that have become known in recent times chemically acting agents or baths to achieve effective tarnish protection that contain n «alkane ~ l-thiol compounds, not on. But even with these means, experience has shown that at least a certain tent of stable protection can only be achieved Achieve against tarnishing if you use such agents as soon as possible after thorough cleaning of the silver » surfaces.

eben gereinigte Silberoberfläohe wieder angegriffen wird. Es versteht sich, dass Infolge solcher vielfältigen Erfordernisse optimale Ergebnisse nur mit erheblichem technischem Aufwand erzielt werden können.just cleaned silver surface is attacked again. It goes without saying that as a result of such diverse requirements, optimal results can only be achieved with considerable technical Effort can be achieved.
It has now been found, surprisingly, that the previous disadvantages are avoided and optimally technically simple Cleaning and tarnishing protective effects can be achieved at the same time if noble metal, in particular silver surfaces are treated with a cleaning and polishing bath according to the invention with tarnishing protection, the desired thio compounds of higher chain hydrocarbons and / or a other organic sulfur-nitrogen compounds in suitable Contains composition. It has proven to be advantageous to adjust the cleaning bath to be weakly acidic with sulfur.
About 5% of thio compounds of long-chain hydrocarbons, in particular lauryl eeaptane, are added to the silver cleaning and polishing agent or bath according to the invention. If necessary, it can be two-fold to add 3 to 12 % of a primary alcohol, in particular isopropyl alcohol, as a solution agent, and phosphated organic ammonium compounds as a cleaner, such as those available on the market for example under the trade name "Sorban H", in an amount of about 1 to 5 % to be used.
¥eat in der Komposition als waschaktive Substanz und als Netzmittel ist ein Emulgator, der eine Alkylarylpolyglykoläther-Verbindung mit vorzugweise 8 bis Io Mol Ätheroxyd im Molekül sein kann, mitbenutzen und in einer Menge von Io bis 4o % in dem erfindungsgemässen Reinigungs- und - polier-Mittel bzw.-bad benutzen.¥ eat in the composition as a washing-active substance and as a wetting agent is an emulsifier, which can be an alkylaryl polyglycol ether compound with preferably 8 to 10 mol of ether oxide in the molecule, and use in an amount of 10 to 40 % in the cleaning and polishing according to the invention - Use agent or bath.

In an identical bath according to the invention, 3 pieces of 15 × 5 cm silver bowls, which had a slightly brownish tarnish film, were immersed for 20 to 25 seconds at room temperature. The dishes were then removed, rinsed thoroughly with clear water and dried with a standard soft textile cloth. All dishes showed reflective surfaces. After storage at room temperature and normal atmosphere for 12 weeks, the appearance of the dish surfaces had not changed. Untreated pans used for comparison exhibited a brown tarnish after a short period of time. To test the attack on the silver as such, one of the dishes was treated for 8 hours at room temperature in the bath described above. After rinsing and drying, this bowl also showed a high gloss surface and no weight loss, proof that the silver was not attacked, otherwise the surface would have become dark and cloudy. A change in silver is definitely excluded under the usual working conditions in the bath according to the invention, VJ / jL / s> --- v ~ > \
