Abstract

777,505. Clamp fastenings. ANSELMI, E. Feb. 15, 1955 [Feb. 15, 1954; March 26, 1954], No. 4525/55. Class 44. A screwless clamp for fastening together two rigid bars at least one of which is longitudinally flanged, comprises two pairs of jaw members 1, 2, each pair of jaw members consisting of one hook 3 or 4 adapted to fit over a flange of one bar, and one arm which is angularly spaced from the hook, and the end 5 or 6 of which bears against the web of the other bar, a transverse plate 7 connecting the two pairs of jaw members to each other and provided with an inclined surface arranged so that when a force is applied at right angles to it, a torque is transmitted to the pairs of jaw members, and also provided with a recess 13 at one end adjacent to one of the pairs of jaw members. In one form as shown in Fig. 3, two clamps are used and they engage the bars in opposite directions. In this construction each of the plates 7 is of wedgelike shape in plan view and the front edges form the inclined surfaces 8. These are arranged to be in contact, and hence when the two members are moved together longitudinally each is rotated by the engagement of the inclined surfaces and the hooks 3, 4 and bearing surfaces 5, 6 press the bars together. In another construction, Fig. 4, the plate 7 is of wedgelike shape in elevation, the top surface being the inclined surface and a single clamp is used. The inclined surface engages a flange of a third bar at right angles to the other two, and this engagement causes the rotation of the clamp so that it clamps the first two bars together.
