An electrode, particularly for discharge lamps, comprises a current supply wire 1 attached to a substantially funnel-shaped carrier formed of closely wound wire windings 2, the carrier being filled with an activated mass supported by a spirally wound sheet metal strip 8. The wider end of the carrier 2 is directed towards the electrode point 5 and is closed by a cover formed of a perforated sheet non- readily fusible metal such as molybdenum or tungsten.
