776.527. Mineral-mining machines. GOODMAN MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 5. 1955. No. 34779/55. Class 68 (1). To permit of the cutting of a series of concentric annular kerfs there is mounted on the hub 15 of a rotatable boring head of a mineral-mining machine a number of radially extending, cutter bit support-carrying arms 16, 17 of which the arm or arms 16 carrying the cutter bit or bits 36, which cut the outermost kerf, are so constructed that the radial extent of the arms may be varied, whilst the arm or arms 17 carrying cutter bits which cut one or more inner kerfs are separate from and of less radial extent than the maximum radial extent of the first arm or arms so as to permit of a greater degree of variation of the first arm or arms than would be possible if said arm or arms carried all the cutter supports. The arms 17 are rigidly secured to the hub 15 whilst the arms 16 can be either pivotally mounted on the hub or rigidly secured to the hub. In the former case the arms are rotated in bearings in the hub by linkages acting on the pivot pins 20 to which the arms 16 are secured. In the latter case the arms are constructed with outer telescopic portions in the same manner as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,707,626, which is referred to.
