Abstract

894,446. Tunnelling machines. ECONOMIC FOUNDATIONS Ltd., PIRRIE, N. D., AMANN, G. W., and WOOLGAR, R. J. June 16, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 19239/58. Class 68(1). The rotatable boring head 20 of a tunnelling machine is provided with cutting blades 34. each of which extends outwards from adjacent to but is offset slightly from the axis of rotation of the head. Each blade 34 directs the spoil it removes from the tunnel face rearwards through the head into an inwardly facing annular trough 26 formed within the head. The trough 26 is divided by partitions 36 into a series of annularly disposed buckets. The spoil falls from the buckets on to a conveyer 40 extending rearwards through the machine from the head thereof when the buckets move through the upper sector of the travel of the buckets.
