Abstract
776,306. Blow-out preventers. SCHONEBECKER BRUNNENFILTER GES. Jan. 4, 1955 [Jan. 4, 1954; Nov. 15, 1954], No. 225/55. Class 85. [Also in Group XXIX] A valve for controlling fluid flow in pipes e.g. in petroleum hauling, has a tubular housing 1 with an elastic insert 13 wholly enclosing a cavity 36 adapted to be supplied with pressure medium, preferably through a pressure converter 48. The housing has rigid and detachable end flanges 2, 3 having inward conical projections 11, 12 engaging the insertion. The cavity contains a metal bush 18 secured by pipe connections 24, 25 through and to the housing. Pipe pressure at 39 acts on a large piston 47 via control valve 44 to produce a higher pressure, by means of a small piston 48, which acts in the cavity to close the flow way 7 completely or closes on a tool 37 passing through the flow way. Should the pressure at 39 be insufficient the higher pressure in the cavity may be produced by moving the piston 48 through the screw 51 until sufficient throttling of the passage 7 is produced and the pressure at 39 is sufficient to automatically close the valve.
