Abstract

772,944. Rotary compressors. JAEGER MACHINE CO. Nov. 15, 1955 [March 23, 1955], No. 32589/55. Class 110 (2). A rotary compressor plant, having means for supplying lubricant to various parts, has additional means which prevent the accumulation of excessive quantities of lubricant in the lower parts of the compressor. As shown, the plant has low-pressure and high-pressure stages 11, 12 of a sliding-vane compressor supplied with oil for cooling, lubricating and sealing purposes by means of a pump 25, which may be of the gear type. An engine 10, preferably an internal-combustion engine, drives the compressor rotors 14, 15, the pump 25 and an additional pump 33, which may be a gear pump, and which sucks oil that accumulates in the bottom of a manifold 13 or inlet to the cylinder 12. The L.P. cylinder 11 has a valve-controlled air inlet 16, having a filter 17, and delivers air through the manifold 13 to the H.P. cylinder 12. The latter discharges into a receiver 19 and oil is drained into a tank 20. The compressed air passes into a separator 21 where oil is filtered out, some oil draining through a pipe 26. Each compressor chamber is provided with oil under pressure, by the pump 25, by way of inlets 23, 24, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). A checkvalve 28, in the line 26, is provided to prevent oil-laden air from being forced up the pipe 26 when the compressor is started up. Air pressure in the receiver 19 forces oil from the tank 20 through a line 29 to an oil cooler 30 placed near the engine radiator 31. From the cooler, the oil passes through a pipe 32 to the pump 25. In an alternative arrangement, the two oil pumps are arranged between the H.P. stage and the receiver, Fig. 7 (not shown).
