In a ring support system for shafts wherein successive rings A are connected by vertical brackets B distributed around the periphery, the brackets, preferably of U or I section, are mounted with the end edges of their flanges either directly or indirectly on the flanges of the shaft ring sections and are connected together on the one hand directly and on the other hand indirectly through additional connecting elements secured to the ring section. In one embodiment L-shape angle irons are welded to either side of the web of the ring section, the vertical arms 1, 1' of said brackets being disposed within the section of the brackets B and secured thereto by bolts which pass through the webs of the brackets and also secure there against additional L-shape angle irons which span and abut the flanges of the ring section. The horizontal arms 4 of these additional brackets are interconnected by bolts 7 passing through the web of the ring section. In a second embodiment in which the bracket sections are narrower than the ring sections employed, plates are secured to the end faces of the bracket sections, the plates resting on the flanges of the ring sections, and the first mentioned angle irons are secured to the outside and the second mentioned angle irons are secured to the inside of the web of the bracket section. The second mentioned angle irons abut the plates. Each bracket is formed of two parts connected by frictional engagement through one or more tie plates by bolts passing through slots in the tie plates so that the parts may move relatively to one another under excessive loads.
