Abstract

771,912. Electromagnetic relays. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1954 [Jan. 23, 1954], No. 2076/54. Class 38(5) In a relay, Figs. 1, 3, 5, in which the opposite sides of eight stationary contact leaf springs 22 co-operate, respectively, with pairs of change-over wire contact springs 23. 24, the L-shaped armature 13 operates the springs 23, 24 through an insulating card 47 supported at its upper and lower edges by springs 36, 35 mounted in the contact pile-up. The spring 36 is bifurcated, apertures in the limbs 53, 54 receiving projections 50, 51 on the card, the spring 35 having a slotted transverse end receiving a card projection 52 engaged by embossed. domes 16 on the armature. The spring 35 has a light upward bias and the spring 36 a strong downward bias, the contact springs 23, 24 being biased towards their fixed contacts 22 and operated, respectively, by card cross-rails 48, 49. The free ends of springs 22 are biased downwardly and moulded in an insulating block 29 supported on a transverse bar 57 mounted at its ends on nuts 58 on a pair of screws 55 fixed to the magnet yoke 11, adjustment of the nuts thus varying the position of the springs 22. A phosphorbronze strip 17 overlying the yoke 11 serves as a back stop for the armature, and is cut at the end to form a tongue 20 which extends between the two limbs 15 of the bifurcated horizontal arm of the armature. The end of the tongue 20 is bent down to retain the armature on the end of the yoke and may be lifted to remove the armature. The fixed ends of the contacts 22, 23. 24 are moulded in insulating interfitting blocks 26, 27, 28, respectively, these blocks together with spacer blocks 33, 34 and springs 35, 36 forming a pile-up retained between a pair of brackets 38, 39 welded to the sides of the yoke. The pile-up parts are clamped by a U-shaped member 42 having in-turned tongues 44 co-operating with openings 40 in the brackets 38, 39, the tongues being forced against the upper sides of the openings 40 by threading a grubscrew 46 into a plate 45 situated beneath the top of the clamp 42, the screw bearing on the spring 46. In a inodification the lower edge of the card 47 is retained in the slotted transverse end of Ó carrier spring 75, Fig. 7, by a pair of projections entering the end portions 76 of the slot, and a central dome on the armature enters the slot portion 77. to engage the lower edge of the card. Specifica. tions 770,030, 770,031 and 771,911 - [Group XXII] are referred to.
