Abstract
1,272,362. Electromagnetic attracted armature relays. SQUARE D. CO. 27 Jan., 1970 [25 Feb., 1969], No. 3774/70. Heading H1N. A pivoted armature relay has its armature 25 on an arm assembly 24 which is pivotally supported on a magnetic frame 12 on which it is retained by biasing spring means 27 which is such as to facilitate removal of the arm assembly 24 without the use of tools. The biasing spring means comprises a compression spring 34 acting between a seat 37 on the end of a rod 36 and the inside of a cavity 38 in an insulating arm 26 of the assembly 24. The upper end of the rod 36 passes through a slot 12c in the end of the frame 12 and two pointed projections 40a on a washer 40, retained on the rod by an adjustable nut 39, engage in shallow notches in the frame end. The spring 34 thus urges a knife edge 32 of the armature 25 into a groove 31 in the frame 12 and biases the assembly 24 away from the core 14 so that a part 46 of the arm 24 engages a stop nut 44 on a stud 45 attached to the relay base 10, Fig. 4, shows a number of alternative relay components such as the encapsulated coil 18 which may be replaced by series coil 95 and shunt coil 94 for motor control. Terminal members 101, 102 have interfitting ports allowing alternative relative positions for different spacings of the terminals of coil 95. The assembly 24 may act directly on push-buttons 51 of contact units 50 (Fig. 1) or be provided with extensions 54 (Fig. 4) to act on up to four such push-buttons. In another alternative arrangement the assembly 24 may carry a resiliently mounted contact bridge in a recess 56 and co-operating with fixed contacts 78 each adjacent a blow-out permanent magnet 82 as disclosed in Specification 1,254,236.
