Abstract
771,905. Finishing yarns. NAI, A. March 31, 1955 [Jan. 13, 1955], No. 9382/55. Class 120 (3). Continuous filament yarn is converted into broken filament yarn of regular form, i.e., the filaments projecting therefrom are uniform as regards length, distribution, and inclination to the yarn, by cutting or abrading the filaments in two stages each of which may be applied during a twisting operation and between which the yarn is treated by immersion in an enlivening and lubricating liquid bath which renders the yarn pliable for the second stage and diminishes the effect of irregular stretching in the first stage. The liquid treatment may be applied when the yarn has been collected in skeins or cakes from the first stage or during the second stage i.e. the yarn may be unwound from a collecting device, passed continuously without tension through the liquid, dried as by means of a dye tube, and passed directly to the second, cutting or abrading operation. Specification 452,229 is referred to.
