770,751. Coating by vapour deposition. EDWARDS & CO. (LONDON), Ltd., W., SOC. LE CARBON-LORRAINE, HILLLIARD, A., and HOLLAND, L. A. Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 31, 1952], No. 33085/52. Class 82(2) [Also in Group XI] A vacuum-deposition apparatus for coatplastics, paper and other materials with aluminium has an evaporation base comprising a structurally rigid element, consisting of one or more of the carbides of Ti, Zr, Ta, W, Hf, V, Th, Mn and Cr, with or without up to 50 per cent of silicon carbide, and substantially free from metal and clay binders and from impurities. A carbide rod 10, Fig. 1, clamped between metal terminal clamps 11, 12 has an aluminium wire or tubular insert and depressions 14 to receive molten aluminium. In a modification, a trough-like depression to receive molten aluminium extends from terminal to terminal. Specifications 754,102 and 770,753 are referred to and Specification 654,228 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
