770,297. Planting machines. RIBOULEAU, E. April 1, 1955 [Feb. 26, 1954], No. 5740/54. Class 6(1). A distributer mechanism for planting machines comprises a rotary star-shaped member 1 arranged for rotation about a horizontal axis and provided with a plurality of arms, each provided with a gripping device which is operated by a fixed cam. Each gripping device comprises a plate 8 fitted on a shaft 5 which is rotatably mounted on the member 1 and provided with a spring 20. The shaft 5 is formed with a lug 10 which is engaged by the cam. The plate 8 may be provided with a rubber suction element. The plate 8 co-operates with a flat plate 16 which is provided with a lug 17 and lug 19 and is mounted on a member 12 pivoted on the member 1 and urged upwardly by means of a spring 18. The movement of the member 12 is limited by means of a stop on the member 12 which is movable in a recess in the member 1. As shown in Fig. 6 the lug 19 holds the plate 8 against the action of the spring 20. During operation a plant is placed on the plate 16 which is depressed manually by means of the lug 17 and disengages the lug 19 from the plate 8 causing the spring 20 to turn the shaft 5 so that the plate 8 abuts the plate 16 and holds the plant fast as shown in Fig. 8. As the member 1 rotates, the lug 10 contacts the fixed cam which forces the lug 10 into the position shown in Fig. 6 thus releasing the plant and resetting the gripping device.
