Abstract
769,884. Insulators. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. June 21, 1955, No. 17926/55. Addition to 733,044. Class 36. An oil-impregnated bushing insulator B surrounding a conductor A is sealed from the surrounding medium by an oil-impervious envelope including a rigid insulating tube F, sealed at its open end and embracing a tapered end of the insulator, and a thin skin D enclosing the remainder of the insulator and sealed to the tube F. The tube F may be rigidly supported on the conductor A by means of a plug G having a flange G<SP>1</SP> fitting closely within the tube F and a hollow, internally threaded boss G<SP>2</SP> receiving a nut H to compress a sealing washer H<SP>1</SP>. Alternatively the tube may be supported by the insulator B. A tube F may be provided at each end of the bushing, and the bushing may include stress-grading metal layers and be straight or U-shaped, as shown, the latter being for the carrying of current transformers. The skin D may be rigidly supported by and closely surround the insulator, or may be flexible and loosely enclose the insulator. Means, such as an air-filled bag within the conductor A, may be provided to allow for variations in the volume of the oil.
