Abstract
1,162,339. Cooling switch contacts. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 12 June, 1968 [14 June, 1967], No. 27895/68. Heading H1N. A current conducting circuit element enclosed in a gas-filled envelope 1 is cooled by passing an insulating fluid through passages 8. In a heavy current switch fixed contact members 4, 5 connected through insulators 2, 3 to terminals 6, 7 and carrying contact brushes 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, are made of aluminium and have copperlined bores 8 therethrough. The bores are connected through the enclosure wall by insulating pipes 12. In the closed position brushes 4<SP>1</SP>, 51 are bridged by a conducting tube 9 attached by an insulating rod 10 to an operator 11. The enclosure is filled with SF 6 and the cooling fluid may be oil or gas. Several similar enclosures may be connected together so as to form a completely enclosed circuit. A pump for circulating the cooling fluid may be common to several enclosures.
